Skin Temperature: The Impact of Perfusion, Epidermis Thickness, and Skin Wetness

This work aimed to elucidate the primary factors which affect skin temperature. A simple thermophysical model of skin, accounts for radiative, convective, and evaporative heat losses, has been developed address it. The is based on skin’s morphology consists passive (nonviable tissue) active (viable layers. bioheat equation was solved these layers using realistic assumptions. It found that other than ambient temperature, blood perfusion epidermis thickness are responsible temperature variations. main drop in attributed cooling venous plexus. scale 0.1 °C normal but can be 1.5–2 or higher calluses. Thus, local variations indicate variations, particularly callus-prone areas. effects relative air humidity wetness were also quantified. presence free moisture (e.g., wet wound) significantly increases transfer, resulting a drop, several degrees Celsius. contributes (by slowing dissipation) only case loss from skin. Therefore, undesirable should avoided during thermographic assessment.
